I briefly referenced Kakapo parrot in Little Birdies!, and thought it might be fun to see one waddling around here. The birds are native to New Zealand, nocturnal, and can weigh up to nine pounds. They are also flightless, which made them little more than feathered meals-on-wheels when humans introduced mammalian pets and livestock that have since devastated the Kakapo population. There are now little more than 125 specimens left in the world -- these birds have been relocated to predator-free islands where their numbers have been slowly increasing.
