These are the closest creatures we have to dinosaurs walking the earth today. Within ten years or so we'll be able to manipulate the emu's genetic profile to allow it to develop teeth, a long tail, scales (like on their feet and legs) instead of feathers, and three-fingered arms instead of wings. All of these features are present at various stages of the bird's embryonic development, but are suppressed as the embryo matures.
