Here's a few teaser clips from what looks to be a soon-to-be-released video history of the elusive, endangered Kakapo parrot of New Zealand:
The birds have been on a rapid downhill slide since the 1800's, when humans arrived with pets and livestock, and their population dropped from an estimated hundreds-of-thousands down to sixty or so birds. They've since rebounded to up around 125 birds, but, obviously, their survival is still touch-and-go. For further information, Wikipedia actually has a quite comprehensive entry on the natural history, ecology, and conservation efforts being undertaken on behalf of the species.
