The Alexandrine parrot (Psittacula eupatria) was named for Alexander the Great, who apparently exported a large number of the birds and gifted them to high-ranking nobles and royalty. There's an Alexandrine that plays a cameo role in Little Birdies! as Dan Grant's personal avian companion. He's named Pastiche, after my own involuntarily-liberated birdie buddy.
They're absolutely stunning creatures, but do remember to soundproof the walls before inviting one in to live with you...
